 | "Just a few months after our 14 year old Border Collie died, we decided to look for a new playmate for our 3 year old Great Pyrenees. We looked through several local newspaper ads, called different rescues, and visited numerous shelters in surrounding areas. Finally, we contacted Sage Canyon Animal Sanctuary. I spoke with Leslie extensively about their shelter and what we were looking for in our new pet. Leslie and her sister’s enthusiasm about their work was so addicting that by the time I hung up, I could hardly wait until our appointment.
We were told to bring our dog Lilly with us so that we could make sure that she approved of what was to be her new bubby. That turned our to be a great idea considering our original plan was to get a dog over a year old. Unfortunately, that didn’t seem to be Lilly’s idea. It wasn’t until we brought a puppy out that she showed any interest at all.
Because Sage Canyon’s policy is that no puppies go to their new homes until they have had their shots and were spayed or neutered, we would have to wait about 6 weeks to bring our new puppy home. Like any expectant adoptive parents, we felt the need to visit and were kindly welcomed back from week to week. While there, we were able to take our puppy along with Lilly to the park where we could play and get to know our puppy. We were given a tour of the property. Most of the kennels were new and very clean. The food prep area was so clean and organized that we couldn’t help but be totally impressed. Another things that caught our attention was the emphasis this family made about their sincere love for all of their dogs.
All in all, over a period of 6 weeks or so, we (and our puppy, Fisher) were given attention above and beyond what would ever be expected. I would have no hesitation sending anyone to Sage Canyon to adopt. It was a great experience for our family.
Sincerely,
The O’Malley Family

 | "Thanks to the generosity and vision of the Harris Family, the well-being of pet animals has been significantly enhanced through basic and applied research. The Harris Animal Cancer Laboratory at Purdue University is named in honor of Homer and Dolores Harris and their daughter, Arlene, who came to the Purdue Comparative Oncology Program in 1983 seeking help for their dog, Toby. Dedicated in May 1996, the Harris Animal Cancer Laboratory within the School of Veterinary Medicine serves as a state-of-the-art research facility committed to the study of cancers that affect both pets and people. Since that time, the faithful friendship and generous support of the Harris Family has made possible a new level of accomplishments in the search for improved methods to diagnose, treat, and prevent cancer. By focusing the efforts of clinicians and scientists on this mission, significant progress is being made to rapidly bring breakthrough basic science ideas into the clinic.
As this important research continues, I am confident that The Harris Animal Cancer Laboratory will continue to have impact on the lives of countless animals and people.
Sincerely,

 | "Sage Canyon Animal Sanctuary is an animal rescue facility located on rolling ranch land in Aguanga, California. The facility offers a clean and spacious home to many abused and abandoned dogs until they are placed in new and loving homes through adoptions.
All the dogs are spayed and neutered before adoption, helping to put an end to pet overpopulation. They also work closely with their veterinarian on all matters relating to the health and well being of the animals.
Best Friends Animal Society, the largest no-kill sanctuary in the United States, has been working with the Harris family for a number of years. We have worked with them on a number of projects and know them to be honorable and caring people.
I have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone.
Sincerely,

 | "I have been involved in animals welfare for more than thirty years, as a manager for the ASPCA, one of the largest animals control agencies in the nation, and a the director of North Shore Animal League, the largest pet adoption agency in the world at the time. In addition, I have worked as a private consultant to animal welfare groups in the United States, Canada, and England. For the past four years I have been the President of Helen Woodward Animal Center.
My travels for animal welfare have been extensive, and I have visited with many organizations. Only a handful stand out as being exemplary. Not long ago I had the pleasure to visit Sage Canyon Animal Sanctuary with Helen Woodward Animal Center’s Director of Operations, Rita Truderung. We met with Les, Jeannette, and Leslie Harris as well as Karen Frietas. It was so easy to realize that their family has a strong love and devotion toward domestic animals. The sanctuary was well thought out for current and future plans. The facility itself was immaculate.
I am very blessed to have met these wonderful folks. Any animal that falls into their care will find a true safe haven with these animal welfare angels caring for them.
Sincerely,
Michael M. Arms
